Ban on already appointed IAS and IFS candidatesAccording to the new rules, candidates who have been appointed to the IAS or IFS based on a previous exam and are currently in service will not be able to appear for CSE 2026. If a candidate is appointed after the prelims exam but before the main exam, they will not be able to appear for the main exam. Even if they are appointed after the main exam but before the final results, they will not receive service allocation based on the new exam.

Separate and strict provisions for IPSCandidates who qualify for the IPS or other Group A services through the CSE 2026 and wish to retake the exam in 2027 must obtain a one-time training exemption from the relevant department. They can defer the foundation course, but leaving the training without permission will result in the cancellation of their service allocation.

one-time opportunity ruleCandidates selected for CSE 2025 or earlier have been given a special opportunity. They can appear for either CSE 2026 or 2027 without resigning. However, appearing for the exam in 2028 or later will require resignation from service. The new rules have made the process for repeated attempts and service changes more systematic and rigorous.
