Officers used to collect money from overloaded trucks

The Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has struck a blow at the roots of corruption within the Transport Department. A total of 11 employees, including Assistant Regional Transport Officers (ARTOs) from Rae Bareli and Fatehpur districts, have been charged with serious charges of extortion and collusion in allowing overloaded trucks to pass. This action has created a stir within the Transport Departments of both districts.

Panic in the department, alert in other districts

According to sources, the Special Task Force (STF) had been receiving complaints of illegal extortion from overloaded trucks in these two districts for a long time. After an investigation, the STF finally took action. The accused named in the FIR include the ARTO of Rae Bareli, ARTO of Fatehpur, the concerned DTO, and several members of their teams. This action was taken under various sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act and the Indian Penal Code.

As news of this lawsuit spread, the Uttar Pradesh Transport Department was shaken. Employees in the transport offices of Rae Bareli and Fatehpur were apprehensive, while senior officials were worried about the possibility of an investigation. Sources indicate that this STF action has served as a lesson for transport departments across the state. Strict monitoring of overloading checks and recovery has been intensified in other districts as well.

What did the officer say?Circle Officer Lalganj (Rae Bareli) Amit Singh said, “A case has been registered based on the complaint of the STF inspector. Further investigation will result in strict action against anyone found involved.” He also indicated that this is only the initial stage of the investigation and more revelations may emerge soon.

The problem of overloaded trucks has been a long-standing issue in Uttar Pradesh. Trucks involved in mining, construction, and transportation often ply the roads with loads exceeding the permitted weight, leading to accidents and road damage. However, this business flourished with the connivance of officials. The Special Task Force (STF) received constant complaints from truck drivers, owners, and ordinary citizens. Finally, based on the evidence, this major action was taken. A senior Transport Department official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said, “This action was necessary for the department’s credibility. Now, the pressure to work honestly will increase in all districts.”
