111 deaths in 659 accidents in 2018

195 deaths in 560 accidents in 2019

Around 30,000 vehicles pass through the Yamuna Expressway daily. The high number of heavy vehicles and speeding cars further increases the risk. Drowsiness, overspeeding, and failing to maintain safe distances are considered the main causes of accidents.

Steps being taken for security

According to the Yamuna Expressway Toll Administration, heavy vehicle drivers are being provided free tea at night and pamphlets are being distributed for safe travel. The speed limit for light vehicles has been set at 75 km/h and for heavy vehicles at 60 km/h. Reflector tape is being installed on large vehicles, and safety features are being enhanced as needed.

Traffic pressure may increase further

With the opening of the Noida International Airport Jewar, traffic congestion on the Yamuna Expressway is expected to increase. In such a situation, if drivers do not follow traffic rules, the risk of accidents could become even more serious. Experts say that strict adherence to safe distance and speed limits is the most effective way to prevent accidents, otherwise this trend on the Yamuna Expressway will continue.
